Thanks for visiting Stuck in a Book at my old site – and welcome to my new one! If you were searching for a particular page, then the content will all still be here. Search in the search bar on the right, use the drop down menu to search for authors, or check out a list of all my reviews.
Or just head to StuckinaBook.com homepage and have a look around! It’s lovely to have you here. Below is the post I wrote when I first moved here.
**********************************************************************************************
I feel (oddly) extremely nervous about this – but here is my new blog, StuckinaBook.com! But we’re friends; we can still call it plain old Stuck in a Book. Hopefully it has enough similarities to my previous incarnation to make you feel at home.
It feels rather a strange move, after more than eight years at Blogger, but the number of people who couldn’t post comments, and Thomas’s successful move, finally convinced me to give WordPress a go. (I’ve actually gone for WordPress.org and a web host, which may or may not end in tears.) Fingers crossed for a better comment experience for people here. So, I’ve been breathing deeply and anxiously, hoping I don’t lose all my readers and traffic, because I would hate to see that happen – but comforting myself that I can always go back to Blogger if everything goes horribly wrong.
More positively – welcome! All the content from my old blog is here, with a slightly altered header and a little bit less in the sidebar. Make yourself at home, do say hello, and all should proceed as normal from now on.
(Oh, and if you could update links, blog readers, etc. you would be making me feel very happy!)
Isn’t it amazing how good posts look on WordPress? Welcome.
Thanks Thomas!
Yay! I’ve been following you for a couple of years now and have never been able to leave a comment. So excited for you and for all of us, your faithful readers!
Aw, that’s lovely to hear – and makes it feel like it was worth it! Exactly the sort of response I was hoping for.
You visit DC, you host a podcast, and now you’ve gone all blog-modern. I love it but I do wonder, what’s next??!!
Now I need a long lie-down! I also changed my email address recently, so it’s all feeling a bit turbulent…
Good luck with the new place :)
Thank you Miguel!
Brilliant, Simon! I feel we should all send a new house gift. Hmmm … a book?
I wouldn’t say no ;) Which book were you thinking?
Looking very stylish!
Thanks Claire!
Elegant, yet homey. Wow – and the comments work!
Aw, thanks :) And yes, the comments seem to have been unproblematic!
Beautiful! I’ll be sure to change my sidebar.
Thanks Anbolyn!
It looks good. I have now started reading again after a very long break so looking forward to some interesting recommendations in your new home.
Welcome back, Maggie :) More of the same definitely coming.
Good luck in your beautiful new blog ‘home’. Blogger is not always the best, but I’d never dare move, for fear of losing everything.
Thanks Christine! As you can imagine, it was not an easy decision… but thankfully everything seems to have transferred ok. And now I can see how blogger comments work from the other side!
Talking of Blogger and its idiosyncrasies, it won’t let me amend your link. I’ve even tried deleting you so I can put the new blog back on, and you are still there, on the old blog. Have the same problem with Thomas at My Porch…. HELP!!!
I’m wondering if it’s an RSS feed issue?! But no idea…
Wow! How exciting Simon and welcome to the new blog! :) Will update my link….
Thanks Karen! Still rather overwhelming…. much more so than I’d thought it would be.
Welcome to WordPress – all very jolly. I’ll put the kettle on.
Just one weird thing – accessing the blog via Outlook and Chrome brings me to a neat, tidy blog site, whereas access via Mozilla and Aol brings me to a distorted site – the heading picture is huge and lunges off the page. If I shrink it to fit, the font below needs a magnifying glass. Has it fallen into Alice-land?
For what it’s worth, the site looks the same to me in Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer …
I have made adjustments now :) Thanks!
Thanks Mum – and for testing on other browsers, which I had forgotten to do!
Well done for being bold and moving it all. I actually only discovered your blog while you were in America (thanks to googling my new love Rachel Ferguson) so have lots of catching up to do (8 years worth?!). It’s good that you’ll now get more feedback as I tried to leave a couple of comments. I hope it all works out – I’ll just go and change my bookmark!
HI Natalie – and welcome! I’m so glad to hear comments like this – obviously I seldom know about the times when people try to comment and can’t get through. Hurray!
Welcome indeed Simon. You’ve been so quick setting all this up and it looks lovely. Will update my sidebar link (and Shiny’s).
Thank you so much, Annabel! And for your help via email while I was pondering the move :)
Welcome to your new home – it looks lovely!
Thanks Jane! Welcome!
I hope it all works well for you Simon! Best wishes from the darkest cat.
Thanks Peter :) Lovely to hear from you.
Happy moving day, Simon. It seems to be working nicely.
And oh! Look at that! Now my gravatar is visible!
Thanks Susan – and lovely to see your gravatar! And your comment made me realise I should go and sort mine out.
Oh, hurrah! Now my blog can communicate with your blog more easily, as I often had to make several attempts at leaving a comment. It’s looking good! Hope you enjoy the experience and get to grips with everything quickly, just the way you like it.
Hurray! It definitely was the commenting issue that made me risk losing my traffic and coming over here – but I’m thrilled that regulars have made the move.
Looking good, Simon. I’ve been very happy with WordPress and hope you will be too!
Thanks Margaret! It feels weird to make the change after eight years, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.
Hurrah! I do hate the Blogger comment hassle – drives me barmy! How many comments do Blogger bloggers lose cos of the hassle?! Welcome to WordPress – here’s to a long and fruitful relationship. And a fruitful relationship!
And now I’m going to start experiencing that from the other side ;) I’m starting to see what people were talking about! Thanks for your comment :)
Yay! welcome to a whole new world : ) hope you like it.
Hi Ali! Thanks :)
I’ve just read your email and should be rushing out the door for work but I had to take a peek! I love the new look and you can push any thoughts of we blog friends staying away right out of your head.
Aww, thanks Darlene :) Welcome, welcome, welcome!
Simon, I am still having problems – whatever I do I cannot link to your new site – I copy in the new address and save, but it still takes me to your old blog when I press the link on the sidebar, although it’s showing up correctly in the ‘configure’ box. Can anyone offer any advice please?
Someone else was saying they were having the same problem – and I don’t really know why! Maybe delete it altogether and add again? At the moment the name/text section seems to have changed to the web address, but the link seems to be to the old site? (Thanks so much for trying!)
Hooray – welcome to WordPress. I’ve added you to my Feedly in your new incarnation and look forward to reliable commenting! I’ll change my link to your blog in my review blog’s sidebar, too.
Thank Liz! :D
Congrats on the new place Simon! :D
Looks excellent Simon. Very good luck with it. I shall go and update my links before I forget.
It is always nice to have a change.
Changing my link is on top of my jobs to do this weekend.
Your new site looks so fresh! :) You’ve inspired me to also start reading a Century of Books. I started early 2015…still working on it. :)
Thanks for blog comments!
Looks good! Hope you find WordPress easier to use…
Hi Simon, I haven’t been in touch with you for a very long time, so I’m relieved to see that you’re still writing!
So am I: I’m reaching the end of my bio/memoir of EM Delafield, and I’d like to use a reference that you provided in a review long ago. I can’t find it in your archives now, but it was a contemporary review you’d found of The Provincial Lady in War-time. You quote Edmund Blunden from a 1940 copy of the Book Society News. Is it possible to ask you for your source documentation so that I can quote it? I’d like to use a line from his review.
I’m so excited to discover, just now, your review of Straw Without Bricks! It and its genesis feature prominently in my book, so I’m very interested in your take on it.
I discovered your blog and Random Jottings via Google Alerts…they’ve stopped coming, for no apparent reason. It obviously doesn’t mean you two aren’t still writing your blogs!
Anyway, thanks for your help,
