It’s been another really great club year! Thank you to Karen for co-hosting and for all the people who submitted reviews. I think we got to about 85 reviews between us, which is brilliant – covering everything from detective novels to Modernists and everything in between. Here’s everything we read.
As usual, we’re announcing the next club as soon as one ends – so, next April, get ready to join us for the 1940 Club! It’s a miracle that it’s taken this long to do the year that Miss Hargreaves was published, but here we are.
Plenty of time to get thinking about what to pick up off the shelf…
Thank you again Simon and Karen for hosting the 1929 club. This was my first ‘club of the year’ and I really enjoyed reading everyone’s reviews across different genres. It was great to read about books in genres that I would not normally gravitate towards and lots of inspiration and insight into the period as well
Thanks for the lovely advance notice for the 1940 club. I am certain there will be lots to choose from.
It was a really wonderful event Simon, thanks so much to you and Kaggsy for hosting!
See, I knew that was the reason you chose 1940, that it’s the year your beloved Miss Hargreaves was published. I will have to seek it out then, no more avoiding it!
Hurrah! Can’t wait, and it’s been wonderful to co-host 1929 – what a great year it was! :D
Duly noted. Thanks for the heads-up.
I have read 4 books from that year already and am looking forward to finding more.
Good choice. I see Mariana by Monica Dickens was published that year as well as For Whom the Bell Tolls and Native Son among the best-sellers. I’m hoping there’s a Dean Street/Furrowed Middle Brow or 2 from 1940 as well.
I didn’t have anything from 1929 to read this time, but enjoyed many of the posts I saw. I’m sure I can find a book from 1940 for next time.
Great I’ve already got my books ordered ready love 1929 I managed three this time around
Thanks once again for hosting. Now to go assemble a list of 1940 books…
I love these clubs! I make it a point to find a new title or author and this year did not disappoint. I wonder who or what I will discover in 1940?🤔😍
I just looked… seems I’ve never reviewed any book published in 1940! Hm…
I can never resist looking on my TBR to see what I have in store. Only 2 so far for that year on my TBR. We’ll see
OHHHH. I WANT TO PARTICIPATE! This sounds so amazing!
