Tomorrow I’m going to add another book to the 50 Books You Must Read But May Not Have Heard About – though I think some of you may have heard of this one. Not sure, really. So today I’m going to give you a mini-guessing game, to see if you can identify the book from the brief clues I give.
I’ve just watched the 1962 film – not a musical, you’ll be relieved to hear after yesterday,
The author also wrote children’s books.

Something of a Clue….
I was going to suggest A.A. Milne – but in checking (on fandango), found no film with that date. All the later films are for children – the next two came out in the 1950s (Alfred Hitchcock films).
Will have to think on this some more…
Nancy (for some reason my usual “identity” isn’t appearing automatically)
Think I’ve got it!
The L-Shaped Room?
If so, you may want to read the two sequels – The Backward Shadow and Two is Lonely.
I re-read TL-SR recently and found it quite dated, but that might be to do with the fact I first read it as a student in the 70s and it still felt quite contemporary then – even though it was ??20 years old.
If I’m right, will be interested to hear your views.
But if I’m wrong, just ignore all that…
Carol
Simon, I am looking forward to finding out. The clues are no use to me:)

My guess (before I looked at the comments) was The L Shaped Room too. I don’t know why… that woman in bed I think.
yes the L shaped room also came to mind. LRB wrote two wonderful ‘faction’ books about the brontes
I think that should be ‘writes’ children’s books:-)

Oops, sorry for the double post: I had trouble signing in.
I went with L-shaped room as well, largely based on the fact that the photo’s URL ends “l-shaped+close-up.JPG” – but now I see that the last section forms an L shape. Clever.
For some reason it made me think of The Unbearable Lightness of Being which is obviously wrong because the film was made in 1988 and it’s clearly the L-Shaped Room as Carol suggests…but I just thought I’d share that with you anyway!
