For once, I remembered to celebrate – today is the blogiversary of StuckinaBook. And it’s old enough to get a driving licence in the UK – 17 years old!!
It’s seems quite extraordinary that I’m still going after all these years, and still enjoying it. More to the point, I’m still enjoying the community and the book recommendations and the readalongs and clubs. I’ve been doing this for almost my entire adult life (I was 21 when I started), and blogging about books is now firmly embedded into the way I think about reading.
The heyday for blogging was more than a decade ago, but there is such a great community who keep going – and I love how thoughtful and interesting and personable people can be with the space to blog. YouTube and Instagram and, I daresay, even TikTok all have their place and are wonderful tools for sharing about books and reading – but, for me, nothing else quite measures up to what blogging allows. (Oh podcasting is delightful fun too, of course.)
I wouldn’t keep going if people didn’t read and comment, so thank you so much to everyone who engages with StuckinaBook in one way or another. Here’s to the next 17 years, I guess?

Congratulations, Simon! And Happy Birthday to Stuck in a book! Amazing effort, and please keep going :D
Seventeen years of blogging is amazing, and quite a commitment with the amount of work you put into it. I love your events like the 1937 Club. .
It is interesting to hear the perspective of blogging from someone who grew up with computers whereas I did not even have a computer in my home until I was older than you are now. I too continue to enjoy the blogging community and it has made a huge difference in my reading and opened my eyes to new genres. I hope you do continue on for another 17 years.

Happy Birthday to Stuck in a Book and many happy returns!
Thank you, Simon for your blogs and the podcast- always inspiring!
And not to forget: not living in the UK (Swiss German my mothertongue) I really appreciate those many inputs, my tbr list is getting longer and longer :)
Wow, that really is an amazing amount of time, nearly half of your life, as you say! Well done for keeping gping. I agree that blogging gives you the space to ponder and unfold in ways that no other online format does. Here’s to many more years despite shrinking audiences: you’ll always have me!
Happy Birthday Stuck in a Book! What an achievement Simon. I’ll be eternally grateful for your postings which have introdcued me to authors I’d never even heard of. I’ve just embarked on another J E Buckrose – A Bachelor’s Comedy – which has all the makings of a goodie. Thank you so much.
YEAH! Happy Blog Anniversary! I’m looking forward to at least 17 more years of your wit and intelligent recommendations.
Congratulations Simon. As a sometime blogger on books (currently moribund, pondering how to relaunch it, on the to-do list), and habitual reader, I love the more spacious format of the blog. Even if I find myself tuning into podcasts more, these days. So thank you for your blog, and the community it helps foster. And the ideas for reading, of course – I picked up a copy of Summer Will Show, by Sylvia Townsend-Warner recently, and thought, ‘Is this something Simon would read?”
Keep on postin’! xx
Happy Blog Birthday Simon! Here’s to many more years :-)
Gosh, congratulations 17 is very impressive and thank you for all the wonderful books you’ve introduced me too!
Congratulations Simon. Seventeen years is a big achievement. As you say, our heyday has probably past – the new becomes old much more quickly these days it seems – but we still have a community. I’m sorry I don’t visit you very often but I do love the “year club” that you and Karen organise, and will try to visit more often!
Happy Blogiversary, Simon!! 🥳💜🌟 I’ve been loving your blog for years, even though I rarely comment. I especially love your Unnecessary Ratings (perfect logo!!) and thoughts about books I never thought existed. You’ve made my TBR so much longer, but in a good way. Many positive and lovely wishes for many more years blogging about books! Yay! Many hugs! 🤗🌸💕
Happy Birthday!
I hope you enjoy writing your blog as much as I take pleasure in reading it.
Happy Birthday to your wonderful blog – and wishing you many more! I came very late to the blog party, but your blog and podcast, together with a few others, (mostly links from your blog!) has truly revolutionised my reading experience. I love learning from and sharing with other readers in this way. A great big thank you to you!
Happy Blogiversary, Simon! ❤️
Congratulations Simon – what an achievement!! :D
Happy blog birthday! 17 years is an amazing commitment. And even though the Internet has developed since the height of blogging, I agree—there’s still so much good stuff out here and so much to be discovered and enjoyed.
Congratulations to 17 years of blogging. That is great achievement.
Happy Birthday !! Here’s to the next 17 and beyond! Wonderful partnership with the podcast
Congratulations !
17 years! Gasp – what an achievement. Do you get the blogging equivalent of a bus pass if you reach 21 years???
Happy blog birthday, Simon! 17 years is very impressive – I thought my blog was old at nearly 15. Congratulations!
Happy blog birthday! I so enjoy your blogposts, I should visit your podcasts too, it’s not something I’ve ever done for some reason.
Happy, happy day! Thank you for blogging for so long and sharing so many wonderful books with us along the way.
Congratulations, Simon!
I can’t imagine my reading life without your blog or without the Tea Or Books podcast.
I know this must be a lot of work for you, but please keep going.
There are wonderful books that I’ve read only because you told me they existed.
(By the way, I am currently re-reading “The Enchanted April” by Elizabeth von Arnim …. so good!)
Happy Blog Birthday. Thank you for all the new authors, books and blogs that you have introduced me to, and that includes your British Library Women Writers.
Your blog is my absolute favourite though, please continue.
Gosh happy blogiversary! Now I realise how long you have been at it there is little wonder I am struggling to read all your previous posts! Thank you for introducing me to so many writers and for helping to calm and lift my spirits during the Covid pandemic. Keep blogging and podding!
What an achievement, especially as blogging I think has taken a back seat in recent years, due to other more instant formats. The blogs I read have become less and less over time.
For me blogging is starting to become a chore, and that saddens me. It may well be a stage or it might be something else. In the meantime, we all still keep sharing our love books and reading.
Congratulations, Simon!
Happy bloggaversary Simon! 17 years is very impressive indeed! I hope you had some real cake to celebrate (& not just pretty images :-D )
17 years is fabulous! Well done and happy blog birthday. You can’t beat a blog for being able to write that bit more which is why we’re all still at it. Here’s to the future of Stuck-in-a-book – long may it continue.
Congratulations, and happy blogiversary! Thanks so much for all your input along the years, and especially for organizing the xyearClubs
