Oh frabjous day!

Over my blogging years (nearly five!) I have spent hours trying to add features that Blogger didn’t offer.  It took me an age to add a third column (now available as standard); I spent a long time adding a search box (now available as standard), but the area I’ve spent the most fruitless hours is in trying to add inline comments.  And it never worked properly.

Until now!  Blogger have FINALLY done something about it, after years and years of blogspot-users begging them to do so.  I spotted on Lyn’s blog that she could reply to comments, and she kindly pointed out where I could do it.  Hurrah!  Hurray!  (The page wouldn’t load, naturally, but I looked at a cached version through Google.)

Now, of course, this is Blogger… so it might not work.  (If it doesn’t, tell me via Facebook or email…)  I had to move comments down to be imbedded, rather than a separate window, which has caused all manner of drama before… but this time I’m hoping it’ll be fine.  No longer will I have to reply to your lovely comments in lengthy boxes far below the initial comment.

Thanks, Blogger.  All is forgiven.

Hayley – if you go to the dashboard, it should be the first link under Blogger Buzz. If the page won't open, basically I think you just have to change the comments to embedded, and it'll work (so long as your Blog Feed was under 'Full' – this option, or something sounding like it, is under Settings>Other)

This is definitely a good thing. Hurrah! It wouldn't let me put my comment in as WP on Open ID though…

Oh dear! I don't have any subscriptions myself, which solves that problem at least…

Hello Simon, just to say that it completely fails under IE9 (W7 64 bit) but seems OK under Chrome. Whether that bothers you (or indeed me) I guess is to be seen, but I thought I'd mention it.

*Sigh* I wish they'd just make it so everything worked! Naive, I know. But since nothing is ideal, I'll see how this option goes. Since they've just introduced it, I presume (or hope!) that they'll be addressing problems as they arise…

I'm glad you've been able to find the instructions Simon, I just hope they work! I'm a bit concerned about the change in the way the comments display too but so far it's been ok. Fingers crossed!

Thanks so much for the tip! I have spent so many hours trying to get this that just ticking a box seems something of an anti-climax ;)

Even though I have the comments working, the time & date are now wrong on the comments (not the posts). I've checked my settings & they're correct for Melbourne so I don't know why I now have what looks like GMT instead of EDST (Eastern Daylight Savings Time)!

Aaaaand it didn't work the first time. But when I clicked preview, I could then scroll down and enter the random text, and *then* press publish, and it worked! So there's a tip for others.

Hello again Simon, same "invisible" comments page problem under IE8 running on Windows XP as I reported with IE9 yesterday. I'm reading this page (i.e. the comments) with FF5.0 – seems to be no problem at all for that old version. If I come across any other issues I'll let you know.

Hmm, I unembedded (is that a word?) comments on my blog because some people were having a problem which meant that they could only comment anonymously, so I'm loth to re-embed them again. I think I may wait and see if glitches get sorted out first. But it looks good here, and it's a nice friendly thing to be able to do, isn't it?

Thank you SO MUCH for posting about this! I managed to figure out, even though I still can't understand some of the Blogger changes. I did it and it's actually working! Woo hoo!
