It’s a bit late in the week for celebrations, but some of you will, like me, have been celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Monday. My housemates and I went down to the pub and toasted HRH (indeed, I stood up and sang the National Anthem, but quite quietly.)
And today I went to Boswell’s in Oxford and bought this:
Here’s to another sixty years! Well, probably not, but I’m hoping she makes the 75th Jubilee. Or at least chalks up another four years and becomes our longest reigning monarch.
I don’t want to turn my blog into a political arena, with republicans and monarchists sniping at each other, but I also knew that some of you would share my love for, and huge admiration of, the Queen – and the rest of you might be amused by how this 26 year old decides to spend his money…
Hi Simon
I join you in wishing the Queen many more years.
I have tremendous respect for her.
Helen xx
It would be very difficult not to, I think, Helen. Long may she live!
I love the mug! I'm with you on wanting her to make it at least another 4 years and be the longest reigning monarch — anything after that is gravy, as my grandmother would say.
I also bought a Royal Wedding teatowel – they had them at half-price :)
I'm amazed how much she looks like the Queen Mother on this mug. Maybe she will live as long as her mother?
It is uncanny, isn't it? She'll make her 75th if she lives as long as her mother, won't she?
I have my eye on the shopping bag. God Bless Her Maj. & here's to her 75th :)
Do it, Alison!
Ooh! My long-suffering husband is bound for London tonight so I just jumped up and added a Jubilee teacup to his list (hope there is a reasonably priced option). If Queen Elizabeth has her mother's genes she will be with us a good while yet, long may she reign.
Ha! I can only imagine what size bag you're expecting him to bring back… I assume Jubilee products will be everywhere in London, but then again, most people seemed to ignore the Jubilee – holding out for the bank holiday in June.
Hope you bought this week's Country Life magazine, Simon. (The one dated February 1.)
Good for you, Simon. I think the Queen is wonderful, & we could all learn a lot from her if we were willing to do so. I'm sure you will have read the lovely tribute to her from Mrs Kevin from Canada on Dovegrey Reader's blog – it says exactly what I feel.
I'm with you!
