Happy Saturday to everyone! I’ve been a bit under the weather this week but I’ve also been really excited by the news that single-adult households can form bubbles with another household, in England. My brother and I have formed a long-distance bubble, which means we can visit and go inside each other’s houses and have a hug! Something I hope I never take for granted again – since it’s now three months since I touched another human. What do humans even feel like??
Anyway, a book, a link, a blog post… in fact, two blog posts.
1.) The blog posts – here’s a great list of black authors published in the Virago Modern Classics series, courtesy of Juliana at The Blank Garden – and here’s a reminder from Helen at A Gallimaufry that Sylvia Townsend Warner Reading Week is coming up again soon. Week beginning 29 June, in fact.
2.) The book – I love the graphic novelist Brecht Evens, and I’m really excited that The City of Belgium is coming out soon. More info – and you can even read it now, if you can read the original Flemish.
3.) The link – how are bookshop owners feeling about reopening? Find out at the Guardian.
Awww, I’m glad you’re going to get to hug your brother. Bless y’all. I have been in a quarantine bubble with some family this whole time, and it has definitely been super valuable.
Oh, Jenny, I can’t tell you what a joy it was. I did not want to let him go!
Brilliant post. First of all, great you can have your bubble with your brother. In Germany, they have allowed us to have another family for a visit for a couple of weeks now and it makes such a difference. Mind you, I won’t complain, I’ve always had my hubby with me.
Second, the list of the “Black Lives Matter” books. I’m just preparing a post for next week and will happily include your list since it has many new suggestions added to those I found so far.
Third, I have never heard of Brecht Evens but lived in Belgium a long long time ago. Many people have no big idea about Belgium and I had to chuckle when I read “The City of Belgium”. My son studied in Belfast and had a Belgian friend who once was asked “Oh, isn’t that ini Germany” when mentioning that she was from Belgium.
So, yes, I speak Flemish/Dutch and will happily read the book in that language. Thanks.
Happy Weekend.
Thanks Marianne! I am envious of you being able to get to Brecht Evens before me :D I also really recommend The Making Of. I found The Panther a bit too dark for me.
Thanks for those recommendations. I guess there are other books that you will be able to get to before me, so it probably evens out. ;) Anyway, I’m happy to have heard about another good author.
Have a good day.
Thanks again for the list you linked. I included it in my TTT (Top Ten Tuesday) challenge which I changed so it fit my anti-racisms books.
Thank you for linking my post, Simon! :)
Of course!
