A few years ago Lana Del Rey appeared on the music scene with the almost impossibly good ‘Video Games’. Critics have loved her following albums and called them improvements, but I’ve not liked them quite as much. But I do have her latest song, ‘Love’, on replay at the moment… and there’s no denying that voice. (Well, maybe there is. But not from me.)

I know almost nothing about classical music, but I love listening to cellos, and I love listening to this:

Hey all! I’ll be limiting my blogging activity until RSI has gone down, as I’m trying to keep to essential typing (like, erm, the conference paper I’m supposed to be writing this weekend). See you soon, hopefully, but here’s a song from Kathryn Williams’ awesome album Hypoxia, which is all about Sylvia Plath.

Last week I went to my fourth gig/concert ever; I am not prolific at such things, for the mixed reasons that my favourite singers don’t tour in the UK, and I don’t know who would agree to go with me. BUT I did know a few folk who thought that Postmodern Jukebox sounded fun.
PMJ take pop songs and reimagine them in a vintage style, from 1920s to 1960s. The singers and band were all astonishingly talented, and it was a great night. To get a taste of it, here is their take on Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’…

This guy was on the Graham Norton Show recently, and I was quite surprised he was still recording – I only knew him for duetting on a couple of songs on Shelly Poole’s excellent album ‘Hard Timefor the Dreamer’. Well, since then I’ve had ‘Catapult’ on repeat – and discovered that I’ve been spelling catapult wrong all my life.

My friend Lloyd introduced me to the band Lake Street Dive this week, and the song of theirs that I have had on repeat ever since is this beauty: ‘Better Than’. Enjoy!

Not much of Sunday yet, but I’ve been re-reading Guard Your Daughters by Diana Tutton for the next episode of ‘Tea or Books?’, and I’ve been listening to lots of my favourite band, Hem, while I do so. I hadn’t come across this fun little video before, until I started to see which songs they had on YouTube, but… enjoy! Here is ‘Tourniquet’ by Hem.

Jess Glynne’s ‘Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself’ seems like a good crisp-autumnal-morning sort of song.

I’m definitely not a voice in the wilderness when it comes to this one, since they’re currently no.1 in the charts, but I love ‘Shine’ by Years & Years. And, yes, I first heard it in the background of a behind-the-scenes video about an Emmerdale promo, what of it?

I love Florence, and I love her new song.
I haven’t tried sharing them to WordPress before, so fingers crossed this works…
