Song for a Sunday

A few years ago Lana Del Rey appeared on the music scene with the almost impossibly good ‘Video Games’. Critics have loved her following albums and called them improvements, but I’ve not liked them quite as much. But I do have her latest song, ‘Love’, on replay at the moment… and there’s no denying that voice. (Well, maybe there is. But not from me.)

Song for a Sunday

Hey all! I’ll be limiting my blogging activity until RSI has gone down, as I’m trying to keep to essential typing (like, erm, the conference paper I’m supposed to be writing this weekend). See you soon, hopefully, but here’s a song from Kathryn Williams’ awesome album Hypoxia, which is all about Sylvia Plath.

Song for a Sunday

Last week I went to my fourth gig/concert ever; I am not prolific at such things, for the mixed reasons that my favourite singers don’t tour in the UK, and I don’t know who would agree to go with me. BUT I did know a few folk who thought that Postmodern Jukebox sounded fun.

PMJ take pop songs and reimagine them in a vintage style, from 1920s to 1960s. The singers and band were all astonishingly talented, and it was a great night. To get a taste of it, here is their take on Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’…

Song for a Sunday

Not much of Sunday yet, but I’ve been re-reading Guard Your Daughters by Diana Tutton for the next episode of ‘Tea or Books?’, and I’ve been listening to lots of my favourite band, Hem, while I do so. I hadn’t come across this fun little video before, until I started to see which songs they had on YouTube, but… enjoy! Here is ‘Tourniquet’ by Hem.
