Here’s something that should be fun – and do get involved in the comment section! – I’m going to kick off a meme where we say our favourite book, author, song, film, and object beginning with a particular letter. And that letter will be randomly assigned to you by me, via random.org. If you’d like to join in, comment in the comment section and I’ll tell you your letter! (And then, of course, the chain can keep going on your blog.) My letter is… M
Favourite book…
Miss Hargreaves by Frank Baker. This could hardly have worked out better for me, could it? Promise I didn’t cheat.
Favourite author…
This is all a bit suspicious, since I’ve managed to have my favourite novel and favourite author, A.A. Milne. Well, I might quibble over AAM being definitely my favourite author, but there’s no doubt that he’s my favourite whose name begins with ‘M’.
Favourite song…
A trickier choice – I nearly went with Rachel Yamagata’s ‘Miles on a Car’ – but Amelia Curran’s ‘The Mistress’ is just so darn brilliant. No idea where the bizarre image comes from…
Favourite film…
Yes, Mrs. Miniver is madly over the top, but it’s a classic for a reason.
Favourite object…
Mugs, you are the bearers of tea, so you are my favourite M-objects.
That was fun! Do ask for a letter, if you’d like one, and I’ll do a round-up post of your responses at some point…
ooh – I'd like to try this!
Katherine
Great, Katherine! Your letter is L.
I'll try.
Fab – C for you!
Ha, love your choices, and of course I love the letter M :) This sounds fun, I'll try it.
A good letter! Yours is close – N.
And N was rather tricky! But I've managed to sort out my favourite Ns
Good fun! I will try too. Completely get the Mrs. Miniver admiration too no matter what its faults. I've seen it so many times!
I've never brought myself to watch the sequel though!
Your letter is B :)
Count me in, too!
Great! Your letter is G.
Very fun! My answers are here.
I'll give it a try Simon – as long as my random letter isn't something like an X or a Z – I could be struggling then!
Oo, you've come out with quite a tricky one, Claire – U.
Well I've managed it! I did warn you there might be some cheating…
Have never done a Meme before, but like few things better than lists, so will Give It A Go, please!
Lovely! And your letter is E.
Mission accomplished! Really enjoyed it, thank you.
This sounds fun!
Fab! You've gone and got A.
Sock it to me.
Oh dear! You came out with Z, I'm afraid…
If that prospect is too horrifying, I've spun again, and it was O second time around :)
Hm…also not so easy. Well, that's the luck of the draw!
any letters left?
Certainly are! You've got K.
K was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Fun though!

Go on then – I've nothing much to do at the moment ;)
You've got I :)
Grrr! ;)
But now I've managed to do it! What fun! http://apthomas.wordpress.com/2014/06/23/alphabet-favourites-meme/

I'm safe! You got S (a fantastic letter, I'm sure you'll agree).
Hi Si
as long as its not X or Z (or Q or …)
How does V suit?
Not having a blog of my own, look for me on http://apthomas.wordpress.com/2014/06/23/alphabet-favourites-meme/#comment-662

Your letter is P – enjoy!
Thanks Simon! A positive pleasure – responses posted at http://pikku-myy.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/this-post-is-brought-to-you-by-letter-p.html
I like this idea – I'll have a go, but I don't want a tricky letter either!!
L for you, Margaret

Oh yes please :-)
Pumpkin pie – you have H! (not sure in-line replies are working, so hope you see this.)
Daniela says can she have a letter – but you might get an answer in Swiss!
See below! Y
How nice! Daniela gets Y – I hope that works!
Very innovative ! Though scared of getting a tough letter, I'm willing to give it a try ! :-) So let me know what I get !
Lovely! You get P.
Are there any letters left? If so, I'd love one too, please.
I'm duplicating some, I think – but you have W!
That is fun. I'll join in if there are letters left. Like your mugs, btw. I have a lot of the penguin ones as well.
H for you! (I'm duplicating now, as it doesn't really matter.) And thanks! I only have those two, but rather covet others.
If there are any letters left, I would love to try this! I'm having fun reading through everybody's responses.
A tricky one for you – E!
Yay! Actually, that didn't turn out to be as awfully difficult as I thought it would be.

Yes, please letter me ….
You've come out with 'I' – good luck!
Posting here because I do not yet have a blog:
Favourite book: Treasure of Green Knowe by Lucy Boston (I happen to have the US-titled edition which became ‘Treasure’ rather than ‘Chimneys’ ) (my letter also brought to mind Towers of Trebizond – Simon – I think you may not have read this Macaulay yet; am I right? It is unusual and interesting … but the T’s of Lucy Boston’s Green Knowe – including Tolly – really earn my highest T accolade)
Favourite author: Josephine Tey – I find her writing calm, clear, contemplative, crisp, cunning … but since C is not my draw I will say tranquil, truthful, thinking, tailored, tricky ….
Favourite song: Tahiti Trot (aka Tea for Two) Shostakovich transcription
Favourite film: Turtle Diary
Favourite object: Trees
Aaaaaaaccccckkkk!!!!!! (or should that be 'Iiiiiiiiiicccccckkkkkk?!' When I first looked at the screen I saw the letter as a stylized T with nifty little T-bar end caps and a base … then, just after publishing, it morphed right in front of my eyes to an 'I' … the amazing world of fonts … I'm thinking it best to stick with my first impression of a 'T' … as you said, a bit of duplication is happening anyway, and it will be interesting to see what individual things people do with the same letter ….
And me, if I'm not too late!…
S Tarbox
Aptly, you've got S!
Gosh, I forgot all about this!
Favourite book would be 'The Stone Diaries' by Carol Shields, telling the life story of a Canadian woman from the perspective of those around her.
Favourite author has to be JD Salinger. Although he's best known for 'Catcher in the Rye', I think his short story collection, 'For Esme with Love and Squalour', is even better. 'The Laughing Man' is both incredibly funny and terribly sad.
Favourite song has to be something by the wonderful Gordon Lightfoot. 'Summer Side of Life' takes me back to being about 14!
Favourite film is hard as I very rarely watch them, but I have twice seen, and enjoyed, 'Separate Tables' .
Favourite thing is most definitely sewing paraphernalia. Second only to books is the joy of visiting a haberdasher's shop and coming out with more knitting wool and patchwork fabric. Just like books, I've gradually amassed far more than I shall ever use; and just like the joy of regarding your well-stocked bookshelf is the total enjoyment of sorting all those bits of cloth into colour order!
I'd like to try this!
Lovely! J for you.
Am I too late? I'd love a letter. Susan
But of course! You have B.
I would LOVE to!
Great! F.
That is fun – I am going to have to watch this!
H if you'd like to join in!
Gert too, please
Oh dear – U for you!
Oh dear indeed. It's night here but I won;t sleep a wink unless I do this.
Book: Under Milk Wood
Author: Gerald mUrnane
Song: Um MItternacht (Mahler)
Film: ncle Boonmee recalls his past lives

Sorry, that should be Uncle Boonmee
This is fun, I would like to join in please.
Natalie @ Natalie Hearts Books
Fab! Your letter is F.
I'd like to give this a try…
Great! You've got G.
Great Fun! Here's what I came up with:
Book: Green Darkness by Anya Seton
Author: John Gardner (American)
Song: Goodby Yellow Brick Road
Film: Galaxy Quest
Object: Greek figurine

I would love to have a letter so that I can play too.
The only time I watched Mrs. Miniver was when I was watching all the Academy Award winning movies in order–I thought it dreadful, talk about your propaganda films, but then the end blew me away, and I sort of ended up liking it…of course, not enough to rewatch it :)
Can't argue with Milne–I grew up with his books and poems, as did my kids.
I'll be checking out Miss Hargreaves.
Do go and find Miss Hargreaves, and let me know what you think!
Your letter is D.
I've posted my letter D post here: http://janegs.blogspot.com/2014/06/todays-post-is-brought-to-you-by-letter.html
Short answers: Diary of Anne Frank, Dickens, Devil Baby, Diner, and Dirt
Oh wow, this looks fun! I'd like a letter too!
Lovely! P.
I managed to miss this, not sure how – but I'd love to join in. Please assign me a letter! Thank you!
Of course! You get R.
Whoo hooo! Blog post coming next week …
I want to play, too. Can I have a letter?
Certainly! O for you.
Me too! Fun!
Great! R :)
Ooh, is it too late? I'd love a letter! :)
Not too late! N for you.
Done! Thanks Simon :)
Done! Thanks Simon.
I got my B from Bellezza, who got hers from Frances, who got hers from you, so thank you, Simon!
Lovely!
I'll have one too Simon and if I get through Moonstone in time for my book club I'll post up next week. Sounds like fun for a winter's afternoon here.
Great! You've got K.
So sorry Simon, but I got R from Dolce Bellezza. Got muddled. My post is now up though and I have given you full credit. It was a lot of fun.

Dr Harriet Devine has offered to post my list, so I'm composing it now
Thanks
What a fun meme – and a great way to meet new to me bloggers!
If you want to join in, you get… P!
Let's try :)
Sure! J for you…
Simon! How could you?
The letter R is not appearing as many of my true favorites. This didn't occur to me until you set the task. One doesn't realize.
The following are a few of my sort of, more or less, when really pressed, somewhat favorites beginning with the letter R:
BOOKS: Rumpole of the Bailey and Right Ho, Jeeves!
AUTHORS: Ruth Reichl and May Roberts Rinehart
SONGS: Raspberry Beret (Prince) and Rolling in the Deep (Adele)
FILMS: The Royal Tenenbaums
OBJECTS: Reprints! A true favorite, indeed
This sounds like a fun challenge! I'd love to try.
Great – J!
Oh, how did I miss this? I'll take a letter, if you're still giving them out :)
Sure! I'm afraid you've got U…
Haha – challenge accepted :)
If there's still time to join in…I'd love to have a letter. Sock it to me.
Certainly! B :)
Off to have a good think. Will report in soon.
Okay….got my "B" items all set: http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2014/07/todays-post-is-brought-to-you-by-letter.html
